For this specific project i did a chippy chalk paint on these metal bells.

Thin your paint with water.
Also the paint is water based making for a quick cleanup.
It does not matter the unit of measure just keep this ratio the same.
Except for some wear at the handle of the storm door they have held up well.
If i was painting a bigger piece i would have.
Another big bonus if your diy budget is low like mine painting your door in chalk paint won t set you back much.
I think it s been two years if not three.

I used home made chalk paint to paint my wooden front doors and then used the same chalk paint to paint the metal storm doors finishing both with annie sloan wax.
The ratio will be 1 cup of chalk paint to a 1 4 cup of.
In my experience the paint dries quite quickly.
I painted the interior of my front door with only 8 ounces of chalk paint.
The chalk paint went right onto the melamine.
If painting outdoor metal furniture that has rust on it.
Rust will bleed through seven coats of paint so make sure if you have outdoor metal furniture that has rust seal it with rust oleum clean.
So if you are chalk painting on a metal desk or on metal outdoor furniture i would water down the paint.

For the metal door you need to prime first.
A little more chalk paint love our laundry room door revamp.
When doing this project i did not water down the chalk paint.
So if you had 1 cup of paint you could add up to 1 4 cup of water.
Maybe add 20 to 25 to your paint.
A tip when painting metal or anything super smooth with chalk paint.
Two coats of chalk paint a light sanding finish it up with a thin coat of wax.
